How to engage all students in class
Assess what learning style the students have and adjust
your delivery to capture the students attention.
Patricia,
Warm ups are great for setting the stage for the class to come. The students as you have learned expect these "fun" activities and I have found they start looking for items to bring to class to talk about or share as well.

I like to start my class by introducing something fun or different weather it is visual or sound or even just by interacting in a different way, this keeps your class fresh and keeps them focused and attentive.
Patricia
Jeanne,
See you were already using a best practices method that is yielding good results. Keep up the good work and you will continue to help your students to be engaged and learning the required content.

I wasn't aware of the "mini lecture" term prior to taking this online course. That is how I tend to break things up. One tecnique that has worked well is that even when lecturing, I am often asking questions of the various students. That is easy since my class sizes are small, but it keeps the students engaged.
I engage my students by asking them about real life experiences. How they plan to apply the welding trade they learn and what type of welding job they will seek after completion of the course.
Harold, in my field that's called "mise en place": all necessary materials in place. The students are engaged as they prepare for the activity. Teachers are facilitators and role models. We must be that great student too.
All students are engaged by having the necessary equipment and supplies needed for the procedure, along with the step-by-step instructions. However, I make sure that I have demonstrated the procedure in front of the class so that each student knows exactly what to do.
Shantal,
What do you think is your most successful strategy in engaging your students?

this does help on the chapters that students consider boring.
I think this a great way to make sure they know the material. I also like to go over the material once more before they take the Quiz so it is freash in their minds!
Getting students to do the quiz before sarting new materials.
Cynthia,
Getting muscles moving and the blood circulating is a good thing. Helps to wake up the brain and get it ready to learn.

I like to make the students strech a little before class. wakes them up and ready to start.
