keeping students active in class

looking for good ways to keep "ADD" students engaged and concentrating in class these type tend to bounce from 1 subject to another and forget about the rest of the class

Utilizing different teaching styles keeps the class interesting.

Tracy,
Learners like variety and change of pace. By you having direct experience with the need for both via your son you can see how you can keep your students engaged for a period of time. I wish you continued teaching success in meeting the needs of your students and supporting your son's development.

From having a son who suffers from ADHD, I find that changing activities often really helps. He cannot stand to be doing any one thing for any extended period of time. We can always go back to what we were originally doing, but there needs to be something else done in the meantime.

Courtney,
Good way to keep the course moving forward while giving students the opportunity to ask questions and have discussions about the concepts that have just been covered.

I tend to use powerpoint presentations and after every five slides or so, I stop and ask questions about what I just discussed to make sure they are still with me. I also offer some type of incentive for them staying engaged.

William,
For ADD or ADHD students the key is to change activities as frequently as is possible in your course. Also the more you can engage them in tactile projects the longer they will stay focused. The need a multi-sensory approach in order to stay on task for longer periods of time.
