course content
Is it valuable to students if you add to the course content?
Phillip,
This is when you can be creative and make the content come alive for your students based upon your instructional planning and delivery. This is when teaching is fun.

Well put. I look at it as the content is outlined but the delivery method is mine to "play with". Give it a personal touch.
Valerie,
What you want to do is to personalize the content just as you are doing. By inserting examples, case studies and your personal experiences you are making the content your own as well as making it interesting for the students. With this approach you will have covered content per-scribed by your school and made it interesting as well.

I have found that when I add my own personal experiences to the course content, it combines "real world" with classroom learning which the students seem to appreciate. What I am struggling with is the course content material given to me from the powers on high, which I am to present and which is flawed from the start with poor spelling, lack of organization (does not flow smoothly) and is...well, let me put it out there - BORING! On the other hand, this allows me to insert a personal touch and check the information while correcting a flawed presentation. Any suggestion as to how I can approach those who provide this information without stepping on their toes?
Kristal,
If you are referring to your own work experience or examples of application of the course content yes it is. Students really appreciate it when you show them the relevance of the content through examples and stories. They help to make the content come alive.
