I learned from this lecture that
1. The attention span of most adults is in the 15-18 minute range.
2. We only remember about 25% of what we hear.
3. We normally only retain 40% of what we read.

Based on the facts I understand more about my students. Students have the different learning preferences, as an instructor, I should address as many learning styles as I can, it maximizes the opportunity for different students to comprehend. When you practice more, you can pick up the different method naturally during the class.

In health care I can do this by going through case studies, giving the indiviudal the opportunity to apply their knowledge. Also allowing the students to participate in "test your knowledge" sessions. Because my courses are not easily accomdating to every learning style I feel I do can best accomodate as many learning styles as possible by ensuring I use and take advantage of all the resources available to me.

Keep to what yu teach give students you stories

yes, i also feel that providing ways that the course content can be used in the real world is key. If the students can see where the subject matter is really used, it makes them see that it is important to learn.

i agree. it gives them a knowledge base of what task they're supposed to learn and complete.

Using real world experience is key. By allowing my students to take field trips, veiwing video footage, and doing hands on experimentation has been a great asset that I use to keep the students engaged. It also allows them to see their future in what they are doing.

It is tough to do that in Algebra but I try to give them opportunities to work on the problems themselves as well as doing examples on the board.

I have made visual and tactile boards in the lab. that are pertint to activities of daily living for the subject.
