Addressing Different Learning Styles

Since students have different styles of learning, which include Written Word, Auditory, Visualization and Tactile, instructors must ensure that they are delivering the method that enables learning to occur for the students. With this in mind, instructors should try to deliver as many styles as possible to address each different learning style.

Donna,
This is such an important thing to ask your students. This way they can let you know so you can be supportive in a way that enables them to be successful if they are willing to put forth the effort.

I always ask my students in the beginning to let me know privately if they have any special learning technique that helps them. It lets them know I am there so all can learn.

Laura,
Both actually. This way you will be offering instruction that appeals to the different learning preferences of your students. In the meantime they can share with you how they prefer to receive information and content and you can plan your instructional delivery around this information.

I often find myself over explaining things. This annoys me and it probably irritates the students. I do know giving clear proven information, always insure the student will get the information needed to learn the material.

What's the best way to determine a student's learning style? To try different methods, or to ask them?
