Demonstration

It is always a good idea not only tell the students what will be done, but also show them.

Shad,
Demos are a value added teaching tool. They show the students how to apply the content in a practical way and this increases their excitement about what is being taught.

I find in my classroom that demos which engage my student as well as inform them are the most successful.

I like to first demonstrate and show an example of what they will expect to see in a real word scenario.. I create these different scenarios by my real word experience.. so the student can learn from my trial and error.

Demonstration is a huge part of learning, especially in technical areas. Most of the students have never seen the parts, assembly, or operation before. You have to break it down and show them every piece so they can fully understand the material and objectives of the lesson.

I think it's important to always demonstrate to your students what they will be doing. That way they have a clear expectation what is expected & what it should look like when they demonstrate it back to their instructor.

Amer,
Good strategy to enhance the application of content. You share, demonstrate and they they apply. This helps to store in their working memories the needed content as well as implementation steps needed for not only course success but career success as well.

Demonstration in my field is so important for safety considerations and for occurring the necessary skilled needed for each student to succeed. For every demonstration I have a box which includes all the necessary equipment and instruments. this make it easy for me to start my Demo. without any concerns. If additional equipment is needed I get it ready beforehand. as I cover my Demo. I don't object to video or audio to help my student revisit the Demo. especially if their retention is slower then other students. I like to keep my Demo. active I ask questions to keep my student engaged in the process rather then having them as audience. A hand out with step by step is also included as part of the Demo. I give the Demo for a group of 5 to 6 students. for best result I get my student to perform the Demo. as soon as I finish it so they don't forget the steps.
