Learning styles

By using as many learning styles as possible, there will be more students that can succeed.

I let the students know ahead of time that I will be giving them the opportunity to learn audibly, tactile, visually, etc... I also don't micro manage their note taking styles. They tend to feel safer knowing if they don't retain the information one way there will be another opportunity down the line. They will be taught with a different approach and without judgement.

I have found that grouping students and supplying them with a question to answer I got a lot more diecusion than if I asked a question to the full class

Cynthia,
Good strategy for engaging students and getting them all invested in the course.

I have a series of ?'s I ask, then by grouping those with the least experience together, to those with the most experience, I can tailor my lecture/demonstrations to the groups within the group...getting them all on the same page quickly!

JOHN,
I do as well so I use a pretest the first class meeting to establish a baseline on the current crop of students. This way I can customize my content in relation to what they do and do not know.

I like to find out what the students know and go from there. However, I also cover the curriculum.
