Varying learning styles
The objective is to connect with all of the students, all of whom retain content and learn differently. Varying the styles will enable all of the students with equal learning opportunities.
In order to reach all students it is important to meet all learning styles, lecture, application of materials, and visual. It is also important to let the students know that all learning styles will be incorporated into the course, even if the students does not realize their own learning style. Most of us use more than one learning style, so to incorporate more than one style, you will reach students on different levels, this will help to keep them engaged and to be able to retain the information.
I teach a very kinesthetic class (massage) and incorporating various learning styles can be difficult. I like to include essays, research, videos, music, art projects; different things to allow all the students to do what they like and to experience something they may never have tried before. Sometimes they surprise themselves with how well they do!
