Hi Kelly - It is realistically probably not possible to address every learning style in every one of your classes. However, you can vary your delivery over the entire class to reach all of the learning styles. You can lecture, use a powerpoint, show a video, bring in a sample or component; basically what I am saying is "Use your imagination!" You will come up with all kinds of ideas that will not only benefit your students but excite you as well! Best wishes! Susan

Hi Ty - Welcome to ED 103! As you mention, usually an instructor will get the "feel" for his/her class in terms of learning styles. In some classes instructors have really accelerated classes and may not have that advantage. So, as you also mention, it makes great sense in every class to try to incorporate delivery that accomodates all of the learning styles. Thanks for your posting and best wishes for continued succsee in your teaching career! Susan

Hi Chanel - Interesting- I would have guessed that the majority of your students would have been kinesthetic/tactile. It is more difficult to balance your delivery across all the styles , but the pay-off is worth it! Best wishes - Susan

Hi Anthony- Welcome to Ed 103! I'll bet that you have in every class, students that have some form of dyslexia. Knowing what that entails, you can be a great resource for those students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

Being a person with dyslexia, in which not finding out until later in life, you look at things in a different matter on how things make sense to me. Now dyslexia is how your brain sees things as an example: myself I am a picture thinker I like to see how things work, some people like to here things explained. As an instructor I have to come up with different ways to explain the material to my students and in the past 14 years I had to develop all different ways which made me a better teacher and understand where I can improve myself, because dyslexia is a gift not a crutch.

Recently I have given my students a learning styles quiz from online to see in my field of culinary arts if there is a general learning style...there isn't!! All of them are in the same field but very different learners..I have taken that info and really tried to balance my content delivery for all learning styles...You have to remember that everyone is different and you need to relay the same info in 3 to 4 different way everyday.

By quickly learning the different stlyes of your students you can adjust your delivery stlye to meet their needs. There are 4 basic different stlyes of learning and by touching on all of them during presentations you can rest assure that all students will gain something. This takes longer to deliver the lesson but if the students are walking away confused what have we accomplished?

It is important in the first few days for an instructor to get the overall "feel" of the learning styles of the class. By this I mean which student learns by kinetic, visual, auditory and written; then tailor the class content to the majority of the students that fall in that particular catagory. However it is important that the instructor blends all four components so as not leave a student out in the cold!
As far as this knowledge being a benefit to being a more effective instructor this helps me to hone my delivery skills so that I can reach, hopefuuly, all the student's learning styles.

Hi Jan - Welcome to Ed 103! You are so correct - identifying the learning styles of your students will be a guide to providing effective instruction. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

Hi Duane- Welcome to Ed 103! I think that if you make a concerted effort to vary your delivery methods to accomodate the learning styles of your students, you will actually get a much more unified class as they will all be getting what they need. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

Hi Andrew- Welcome to ED 103! Letting your students know that you understand how they learn best is half the battle - of course the other half is delivering what they need! (-: Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Knowing the learning styles, you can more consistently and accurately teach the information.

How do you accomodate more learning styles, when the teaching environment tends to be a little limited in that respect?

There isn't a great amount of kinesthetic learning that I can do in my class, but I realize many of my students prefer to learn in that manner. I acknowledge this ahead of time so their expectations are properly set and so they understand I am aware of their learning preferences.

Knowing how diverse My students are I can be more effective at helping them be succesfull. By divideing the class with as many different styles of teaching, Lab Powerpoint and lecture I am able to reach More students.

By knowing different learning styles you can reach more students and evaluate yourself and your students more effective.

This will help me adj.my presintation to work with the students that need help.

That has allways been the gole however understanding the way a student learns will help

I beleave that i can reach more students by understanding the way they learn.

Knowing the learning styles of students benefits both the students and instructors. Instructors have awareness of students learning strengths, so we can create appropriate learning materials: more written material, maps, recipes, or more reading assignments or more hands on activites.

IF we learn quickly what the students learning styles are(the first days) the students may have better understanding of the material and fewer poor grades, the instructor may have better results with discussions, projects, homework, and test results.
