That's an excellent idea Mehmooda!
I agree Joshula, and most people do learn to adapt to othere styles. Similarly, many people find themselves drawn to careers that reflect their style of learning.
Students learn differently. You can give them different approaches to learning, visually, with text or visual materials.
I can understand and see how helpful it is to know learning styles, but I do feel that students need to be able to adjust to other methods. If a student is a kinesthetic learner he will also need to learn by reading/writing. Even though all learning styles can be used in teaching, in real life ones chosen field may be represented by only that learning style.

Hi Fern,
The learning style method that was suggested to me was the Barsch Inventory. It was very helpful.

Hi Lorie,
I had the same problem, not having a way of determining who had what learning style, the Barsch Inventory was suggested.

Hi Jo
I also use differnt color markers whenever I change terminology.
Hi Fern,
I like your examples. I have tried the game thing only problem with that is few student answer the question.
Frank this so true. My student gets really frustrated in math
by identifiying learning styles you are able to adopt and asure that you use various resources to better communicate the lesson to each learners style. Lowering frustration levels for the learner and the facilitator.
One of the instructional benefits of knowing the learning styles of my students is being able to connect to them in various ways. For example, for kinesthetic learners, in my developmental math and algebra classes, I could create games such as "Jeopardy" with math related subjects. For this game I could have students form teams and go to the board to write their answers. For visual learners in those classes I could create charts. For example I could create a chart in algebra using the four operations with positive and negative numbers. I believe it's a good idea to use a variety of methods in the classroom thereby creating a collaborative learning environment.
I find the addition of a learning style questionnaire would be helpful in my classes.
I have taken the test myself but seems there is a payment involved to see results. That is not something that I can use therefore in classroom.
I already did...sorry if i jumped ahead.
I would like to include the learning style test to my 1sr or 2nd day of class. I think this would be beneficial for me to address any learning styles that I may need to focus on with particular students.
I try to address all learning styles in form of lecture, written instruction, demonstration on regular basis and application of materials to projects.
I think I'm basically repeating what most have said but, knowing the different learning styles of the students helps the instructor know the most effective way to deliver the material. I found the Module interesting. I'm glad you posted another website for a quick test to give students. The website mentioned in the Module requires you pay for the results.
I also really liked the example of two different classes joining to work on a project together. That's an interesting concept that I'd be willing to try after coming up with something appropriate.
In the past I have used a learning style assessment form in my classes to determine my students' preferred learning styles. I have found it effective in determining my course delivery methods. Because of this training course I will use it again. I do try to use different styles in my classes anyway.
Most of the learning styles of my students lean towards the visual and kinesthetic. However, I try to incorporate all learning styles into my curriculum.
I Include lecture in verbal, written on board, handouts, and step by step written instruction as well as visual demonstration on screen of steps or other visual problem solving solutions.
I feel the knowledge of knowing learning styles would be helpful and I would like to administer a test of their learning style up front to better address my individual instruction.
I find I always have to help individual students with added one on one instruction as they do not grasp material presented as readily as others in group instruction. This sets them back and behind rest of class and presents a catch-up problem and frustration on the students point of view.
Any suggestions welcome.
I want every student to do well. It was good to learn about different styles, which I can incorporate, alowing students to draw, but they have to take notes also. Some students require movements, which I should respect.
The benefit of knowing those learning styles will difinetly help me to set up my teaching strategie to try to help every individules. It will help to use very effective time and energe to make student really learn somthing but not spenting a lots of time and effect that student still couldn't get it.
If you can get a good grasp of the various learning styles within the class, as a facilitator you can prepare to deliver various styles of the same information to the class utilizing these tools audio, text, visual, and tactical.
Edward, That is so true. Some students have a hard time getting the concept.
