learning styles
Teaching the students to communicate effectively with others and peers is so important and vital these days. We have entered an new age of information technology, where being on a machine to communicate is overtaking our verbal skills. I feel working is groups is helpful ,but I would like to see more individual work in presenting and delivering content. Individual particpation in communication should play a stonger role in the curriculm.
It has been reported that 70% of people claim that public speaking is their greatest fear!
I agree with you. Some of my students have a natural ability and feel comfortable in public
speaking. The other students have to try harder
to catch up.
The more you get up in front of the class and instruct, the easier it gets.
The hardest thing for me to do as a new instructor was to get up and speack in front of the class.I am a complete hands on learner,So i have to make the adjustments to be able to teach to all types of learners.
Another way to make sure that everyone in the group particpates is to make sure that different tasks in the project be assigned to each member of the team and that the assignments are given timelines for completion.
One thing I have found with students working in a group is that some of the students do not participate as much as the others. To help remedie this I like to have a mix of group activities and individual projects.
I have read that more people fear speaking in public than dying. As I teach public speaking, I know that our students are sorely in need of communication skills.
