I have taken the basic course content and created a power point that enhances the subject. I am an automotive instructor that teaches Automotive Brakes and Suspension. I have creaged working power points that show a brake caliper and a wheel cylinder in action, this allows me to better explain how hydraulic pressure becomes mechanical force. You can almost see the light bulb come on sometimes. Power Point is not that hard to use and you can animate the words, text and pictures to emphasise a point or even show how something works. So far it has worked for me.

I have found lately that I prefer to use my powerpoints as a review of the material that was covered during the class. I go through them at the end of the class to emphasize what was important.
Here is a good tutorial from Florida Gulf Coast Univ. for creating Powerpoint presentations:

Powerpoints are very helpful in a daily over view on what will be discussed in class.
Greetings to you Professor,
I often use powerpoint presentations in my classroom. I however, do not prepare my own. Could you give me some tips on production of powerpoint presentations.
Professor Robert Hopson
I've begun to enhance my PowerPoint presentations by adding photos of current classes in place of more generic photos. The current class gets to see the work done by a previous class and they now have a benchmark to work towards. maybe even develop a little competitive spirit.
I also picked up a microphone and am now inserting voice over commentary for some slides; hopefully making something from all learning styles available for each student.
Hi William, Just a quick note that although using the powerpoint is very useful in instructing we cannot let it become our only focus. I am glad to see that you stop and use other learning style methods. Using the powerpoint and mixing it up makes even dry subjects more interesting to present and receive
If your school uses an online system like BlackBoard you can also post the Powerpoints there to be used as a review resource by your students. Some Faculty will also post them and addtional items on their personal webpages.
