processing datas
everybody has a sense of taste which is different. we receive and retain information through various styles and methods of delivery but how we perceive it,how we process and what we make of it, is where the difference lies greatly.
We also struggle with the diversity of students simply based on age and experience. We have to teach to all students from all walks, and generations interpret the same information differently. Tastes and learning styles change with age and experience as well.
Hi Jennifer - I love that mantra - "See it, Read it, Hear it, Do it and Teach it." Thanks for your post to the forum! Best wishes - Susan
Taste is one of the most difficult things to describe- primarily because we all taste things differently, just as we retain and process other types of information differently.
You have to make the attempt to hit all of the learning styles when teaching a subject- though you don't have to apply all the styles to every student. Students will generally tell you what types of learners they are, which facilitates the task. I am not going to insist that a student reads the information (though it is always helpful to do so) if they are a kinethic learner- in that case I will make them concentrate more on doing it themselves, then teaching someone else.
See it, Read it, Hear it, Do it and Teach it.
I agree Laurent. That is why we have all the great multi-media presentations at the school for the students, video, powerpoint, audio. But we have to always remember to go back to the basics to written and oral presentations and one on one for students to process data that way too.
Very true. I may interpret the information one way and another person will interpret in a completely different way.
