Learning Styles
I am only in my third quarter of teaching but in that time I can really see the difference in learning styles by the comments I get from my students. A couple weeks into the quarter I always ask a few questions about how I am doing and in those answers I can see if I am reaching everyone or if there is a way of teaching I have to change.
Hi Frank - Thanks for your post to the forum. You've got a great mix of deliveries to accomodate all the learning styles! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I just try to use something for everyone- lecture, hands-on, lots of drawing in colors on whiteboard, websites, projects, demos, and more projects!
I find that by "mixing it up," using various delivery methods at different points I can reach more of my students while keeping it fresh for myself.
I have tried the learning assessment tools and found them to be very hepful. Asking your students after a few weeks of class is also very helpful. I try to use a little of each type of learning style to reach all the students at one time or another.
Hi Cathryn-Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree with asking for feedback from our students. Not only does it give us an idea of how we are doing, it also makes students feel that their input is valued. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
