Learning Styles
By understanding the different learning styles, we can adjust the delivery of information to touch on all aspects of learning. We all have our favorite learning style, however we all learn something from each of the styles, therefore we, as instructors, need to be careful not to focus on only one style and explain to our students that they do learn from all styles, not only their 'favorite'.
HI Daniel - Thanks for your post to the forum. You are correct, we cannot always address every learning styles in every class, but if we try to vary our delivery as much as possible , we are doing a great job! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
This is a great point that students need to be somewhat adaptable in the classroom. Not every lecture or all content is going to be able to be given in all styles.
Hi Scott - Congratulations on running a classroom that encourages active learning! Best wishes- Susan
I teach a one-hour course daily to a large class. I discovered early that I had numerous styles in each class. I changed the course from primarily lecture to incorporate kinesthetic, visual, and manipulative techniques. I also use the Socratic questioning method often. While I am far from perfect, I've noticed that the level of interest has improved and that I've eliminated the "back row sleepers". The use of periodic quizzes has also improved the learning curve.
Hi Frank- Thanks for your post to the forum. You make an excellent point- although we all learn best when taught via our preferred style, we will constantly ,throughout our lives and careers, be required to adapt to other styles.
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I agree that we must adjust to deliver information in order to beter accommodate our students. That way we all achieve our goal.
