Teaching Adults
Try to engage them on their level as adults and then break it back down to basic.
Everything I teach is hands on computer classes. Once in a while it is nice to have something out of the ordinary, but not an easy task to do. I have learned to use other resources slowly but I am always open to other ideas.
Hi Monica- Do you mean that you need to spend more "Hands-on" time with your adult learners? That has also been my experience. Susan
Also look at the age difference with learning styles. One characteristic I have noticed in my class is that the older a student is, the harder it may be for them to be auditory or written word, but more hands on. Of course this goes with technology as I teach computer classes. where the younger adult learners can zip through homework because they are more familiar with technology.
When teaching adults it is imperative to remember that they are adults and as adult learners adapting to their learning style is crucial. If you have a person that learns best through kinesthetics then adapting hands on learning into the lecture that the auditory learner is gaining the information through will adapt both learning styles for them to gain more from the lecture.
YES BECAUSE ADULT NEVER BEEN TO SCHOOL FOR A LONG TIME SO MAKE SURE THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT U TEACHING THEM AND SIMPLE EXPALINATION IS BETTER EVEN DO THEY ADULT SOME TIME THEIR COMPREHENSION ARE SIMPLE .
Also realize that they are adults and are probably voluntarily participating so they understand that their knowledge level needs developing or growth
