By knowing the learning style of your students you can ensure the delivery of content is optimized for each student.

I feel by better understanding the diffrent learning styles, will help reach the adult learner. The adult learner will leave feeling as if you are there for them.
I teach a lot of the computer related courses. It seems like when I have a server course that a lot of the studnets seems to do better with the hands on approach.
I like to do a lot of visual, and audio with the students, it seem slike a lot of them get the information better.
getting to know your students by being hands on and interactive hepls them become more understanding of themselves and ability to learn
Knowing the learning styles of your students gives the instructor a better understanding of the individual student and will make their learning experience that much easier.
Knowing the learning styles of students would make me a more effective instructor as I can adjust to my students' needs and the way they learn.
Hi Robert - Thanks for your post to the forum. Isn't it terrific that we have such a vast volume of material that we can choose from to use for our students to meet their learning style preferences? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Customizing learning to individual styles fosters individual learner academic achievement success. One size won't fit all obviously but all learning is the goal. Using electronic presentation systems that provide a palet for students to choose their delivery methods, of the same content, is a bonus in the learning environment.
Hi Shelley - Thanks for your post to the forum. I find that the majority of my students have never taken a learning styles assessment and have not really learned anything about learning styles. however, when I explain the concept, the majority of students can predict what the assessment will identify as their preferred style. Have your students take the assessment and send you their result. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Finding out the way each of us learn is extremely important. We must find our niche in order to be successful.
At my school, I assign students reading material to prepare them for a lecture and demo befor they engage in activities demonstrated in the demo. I believe that I cover all four areas of learning styles. I see the value in knowing the learning styles of students & testing for that information. My question is: How likely are students to know what their learning style is? Will learning style assessments make that clear to me? I'm sure you can see from my question that I have never used one. Any feed back in this area is appreciated. Thank you.
For the students: Allow to learn in "your way", give customized techniques to score better on tests, reduce the stress of learning experience.
For the instructor:Guides you in delivering effective presentations to diverse audiences,
to stay up-to-date professionally, allows you to manage teams more effectively
I use all the styles as students are of diverse sections.
Hi Kelly - I have done training for Corporate leaders also - and agree completely!! Susan
It helps ease both my, and the students, frustration level when I can help them learn the material a little easier. It also saves alot of time when we have established their ideal learning style and can move through the material and continue to build upon vs. revisiting it over and over again.
Thank you! I've been teaching undergrads for 5 years and had previously taught executives. Teaching executives is much more difficult because they rarely pay attention, so you need to get creative. Most of time, my students are engaged and actively participate, so teaching is much more fun!
Wow Kelly - You are definitely running and active learning classroom! Best wishes - Susan
If you understand your the learning styles of your students, you can adapt the way that you present the material. Personally, I believe in using multiple delivery methods as classes that I have taught in the past were large so I had students with all 4 primary styles. Some of the ways that I present material include PowerPoints, article discussions with questions, videos, internet research, group work, individual presentations, case studies, interview/shadow projects, field trips, and guest speakers.
knowing the learning styles of your students allows the instructor to break through a learning barrier that the might student possess and allows that student and the instructor to succeed in their curriculum goals and objectives.
BY GIVING A LITTLE BIT OF ALL TEACHING METHODS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DELIVER TO ALL STUDENT TYPES
