learning styles
Due to the fact that students have many learning styles it is important to incorporate many uses of these in the classroom. Each student should feel as though they are getting the information in a way that they can understand easily.
Hi Charles, many of our students did poorly in high school. Once they begin to work with our faculty using all sorts of activities, they absolutely flourish! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

this same thing happened to me, i was considered a "slow learner" through all of my primary education. it was not until i reached college and worked with study services that my university had that i realized what i needed to do. this experience has help shape me as an instructor. i often make students work through problems in a group and make fun games out of class materials to include all learning styles in my classes. i give handouts and write on the board as well.
Hi Cecilia, So sad really - how many children are turned off to learning because their learning style is not addressed? Thanks for sharing your personal story! Susan

I keep remembering how I was taught as a child, lecture style, but I never listened, I was always daydreaming and labled as 'very slow.' Art class got me interested, but we rarely got an art lesson. It wasn't considered important. I remember the day I made a decision to pay attention and listen, and ask questions if I wasn't following. It was many years later; better late than never. I am primarily a visual learner. I can't have loud or noisy music, or music with lyrics while I study, I can't concentrate (classical is OK), and lyrics make me want to think about the song instead of studying.
Hi Sandra, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, it's unrealistic to expect to address each learning style in every lesson. However, as you state, if we try to adjust our delivery to do so as often as possible, we will be doing a great job! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I agree. In each teaching encounter I try to incorporate a few to hopefully not lose any of them during any given topic
