I prefer to use power point combined with chart on the whiteboard. I also request students to give me their ideas on the material which is written on the board. I also summarize the information on the board in writing.

Hi Jeff - Thank you for your post to the forum! Are the films available for your students to use for review? Best wishes - Susan

Every day I must do a demo based on our daily production. We use a live camera so that they can watch the screen or they can watch me directly. I do as little prefabricated materials as possable so that they can understand how a finished product come to completion from the very beggining. I make sure that I show them how it should not look and what to avoid doing and I show them the proper way. Basically I show good and bad way and reienforce the correct way. I take my time for the lecture never to rush and then we set a time table for success.

In addition to video clips and PowerPoint (I try to utilize slide images that are colorful and surprising), I will also draw cartoon-type images on the board from time to time. The idea is not just to be visual, but to vary the visuals. Also, in classes like Food History, I introduce into group discussions paintings from the time period at hand, in a an attempt to help visual learners engage visually with history.

Hi David- Welcome to ED 103! You are doing a great job at using PowerPoint effectively - rather than just looking at the slides your students are asked to interpret and analyze - excellent! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

During Lecture I use power point presentations. Most of the information is reinforcement of knowledge the students have already learned in other classes. I make sure to point out bits of information on the slides and ask the student to finish the idea or concept out loud for me so that they understand the the new knowledge is realative to the knowledge they already have. Visually they are looking at the text and pictures on the slides to lead them.

Hi Rehema- Welcome to ED 103! Thank you for your post to the forum. Utilizing the "notes" section of PPT handouts will also give the kinesthetic learners something physical to do while you are going through the presentation. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

When I'm working with Visual Learners, I always use a PowerPoint presentation. Students who are visual learners are more engaged and focused when there is this type visual stimuli. I've also used handouts with a "notes" section for students to follow along with my lectures.

Fortunately for me the culinary teaching world leans toward visual learners. I like to show my students full demos of things they have not seen and finished dishes of things they have. That way they can get a clear picture of what they are aiming for.

We use many power-point as well as physical product and procedure (technique) demonstrations for visual learning. We also use photo presentatnions to demonstrate differing technique applications.

For the most part, powerpoint presentastion are the norm (with fun colors, picture & movement) to keep the student attention. Also the whiteboard to convey any other type of information. During demos, I also like to show each step in detail.

Hi Michael - Asking questions about what your students observed during a demo is a great technique! It will encourage paying attention during the demo and also serve as a recap that will improve retention. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

The use of Powerpoint along with demonstrations and visual aids help in my Meat and Seafood Fabrication class.
The show and tell part of the class creates discussion and then the demonstration can be combined with questions about what the student observed during the show and tell.

I also use all the mentioned resources. I also make sure that I use the white board to emphasize content during lectures and make sure that I use all the powerpoint "goodies" so the presentations are not just slides but also have some movement.

PowerPoint presentations, charts, pictures, films, demonstrations and menomic aids for study.

I use Powerpoint slides (complete with clip art), educational videos, and a white board to communcate with my visual learners. Occasionally, I'll bring in some other kind of visual aid or ask students to create slides as part of a presentation.
