CHALLENGING STUDENTS

WHAT ARE THE BEST METHODS OF LEARNING FOR MENTALLY CHALLANGE STUDENT?

I think to prepare at a level where they are at is helpful. It may take a bit of doing to find that out though.

Hi Katrina, Thanks for sharing some good examples of ways to work with challenged adult students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Or the mentally challenged adult student? One may assume that since they're adults they have it pretty much controlled, taking meds (if needed) for years, etc. but they still face the same challenges as children do. I teach several adults who have ADD, ADHD, etc. and have been out of school for several years. You'll be surprised that the strategies we use with mentally challenged children still and will work with adults. I've found the mini lectures/more breaks works well with those students. Even if its a break to walk around the room, come up to the board to move and break the lecture or even the movement into small groups.

Hi Fayez, That is a difficult question as mentally challenged students are just as diverse as those who are not. Each child would need to be individually assessed. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.
