Doing a survey at the beginning of class
I have done the last 3 mods (5 week courses) a survey at the first day of class, asking what it the best way they learn, is there anything I need to know about them and their learning style or taking test? i.e. learning disability, needing to be put somewhere else where they can read the tests out loud or have someone read it too them
This is a fantastic idea! Not only does it help to set the stage for the classroom, it helps the instructor plan out the rest of the semester meeting the expectations of an ever-changing student population.

Hi Glen, Thank you for that information!

Hi Susan,
Sorry for the delay of my response. Regarding your question about hiring process assessment, the institution includes predictive behavioral interviews and hiring standard criteria to identify potential candidates for the job. I finally found the tool I was looking for to help evaluate the learning style of the students to help match the instructors lectures through the use of imagery. This is inexpensive and practical and can be utilized in a short span of time. According to McKeachie (2011), identifying and matching learning styles through imagery description can quickly identify whether your students are visual, tactile, or auditory by their response and the way they describe the image. Thank you very much. Glen
Hi Glen, What exactly would the role of the tool be? What are you assessing? Are their other assessments that are used in the hiring process?

Hi good evening. Just chiming in. I believe that getting a consenus regarding the learning style of students during their first day of class is a valuable tool in helping to uplift the integration of teaching style in facilitating students learning. Right now we are in the process of developing a residency program to help in the transitioning of new employees to their work environment. I am looking for a better evaluative/survey tool that will be straightforward and less time conusming. Any suggestion will be much appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Kari, Thanks for your post to the forum. Your approach is very proactive - great work! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.
