Learning style

Is it possible for a student to have difficulty learning, if they are classified under one of the four learning styles?

Hi Carl, Thanks for your post to the forum. That is an excellent point - students may sometimes have different preferences depending on their physical condition.

Some students perform better with different learning styles at different times. For example, when tired, an auditory approach may be better with interaction; where a tactile approach may work better when the student is more alert.

Hi Andre, That is good advice for any instructor!

It's my belief that anyone can learn subject matter. Unless the student was in a vegetative state (literally), they have the ability to learn SOMETHING (...as evidenced by their likely ability to speak, or tie their shoes, etc...). I was never a "natural" when performing tasks in my chosen field, BUT I had a strong desire and fascination with the tasks. Couple this with an Instructor who is willing to adjust teaching methods to accomodate learning styles, and it forms the basis for my belief that the student CAN learn the subject matter. I was fortunate enough to have Instructors who were persistent and patient, thus helping me achieve my goal of learning. I reflect back on my time as a "Student" when I approach my role as an "Instructor".

Hi Craig, Thanks for your post to the forum. The learning styles categorize students according to the way they prefer to learn but anyone can still have learning problems/disabilities. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.
