The lecture method of teaching

I would be lying if I said I wanted to try new methods of teaching styles. I'm quite comfortable where I am with my lecture style method of teaching since, after all, it is a oral communications class that I teach. That's not to say that I would not use bits and pieces of different styles if need but, but my preference is to lecture.

Sometimes we have no choice but to try other things with our students or we are at jeopardy of losing them. Leaving them feeling incompetent.

I teach three different courses, Anatomy & Physiology, this is mostly didactic with some visual aids. Medical Orientation is mostly lecture. Medical Law & Ethics is usually done with lecture and discussions groups. I myself learn best by seeing & hearing.

I never teach a class the same way the second, third...ect! I take notes after each class to find out what works and what didn't. I look for new material to use and try each new term.

Hi Alan, Thanks for your post to the forum. I so agree - doing the same anything over and over is boring!Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I am always looking for new and interesting ways to teach. Find that the same old way over and over is boring to me. In theory if it is boring to me, my presentation of that material is going to come across to my students boring as well. I lecture, video's, games, writing and question and answer mode keeps it interesting.

Hi Joseph, I teach Effective Speech and use videos of speeches by students that are available on You Tube to demonstrate good and bad examples of public speaking.
