Learning Styles

I have always incorporated a Learning Styles Questionaire as part of my orientation process when receiving a new class. It is a very important component when creating a lesson plan for my class. I've learned to use Power Points with lecture and an outline component. This ensures all of my students are able to get what they need. Having the students record lecture has been a big plus for me also.

Hi Gerald, Thanks for sharing some good ide for PPTs. I hate when they include jarring sounds and animations! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I use Power Point presentations and have seen some written to "Death by PPT" meaning all words. I incorporate graphics with points of interest in each slide created. Also included are objectives and summaries. A surprise quiz may be included.

I always incorporate power point in my lesson plan.

Hi Eric, I also use many different approaches to learning styles. The assessment tool at the being of a semester is great, it helps the teacher immensely. I use power points with pictures, videos, whiteboard notes, books mirrored onto the whiteboard, and handouts. Auditory learners are able to tape the lecture if they like. I also mix up the groups so each student is able to understand other students learning styles. These tools have helped me be able to reach all my students' different learning styles.

Hi Eric, Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that flexibility is key to working with the various learning styles. It begins with lesson plans that include various delivery types. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Hi Dionne, I think a student learning styles questionnaire is a great idea. I too use Powerpoint to prepare my lessons, but I'm prepared to use more student participation and even white boards to get the lesson across. I try to remain flexible with the presentation style based on the preferred learning style of the student based on their apparent understanding of the lesson.
