Asking students questions, and having it as a class participation event will get more responses.Be carfull not to belittle a student when responses are incorrect...
Hi KIZHAKKEPARAMPIL, Thanks for your post to the forum. I absolutely agree that asking students to apply what they are learning is essential to check for undertanding and to improve retention of the information. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

You are right Michael. A good instructor makes students reflect with thought-provoking questions. Questions that ask for information recall without application will not sustain the attention of the class, and that's when discipline and management problems begin. We can develope a Question Formulation Technique (QFT), through which students learn how to ask their own questions.
never belittle a student under any circumstances,
with a little thinking ahead, we can allways
come up with questions that fit the agenda, without hurting anybody's feelings
I feel that bringing questions into the class helps students understand the topic. There are alot of students that won't ask questions and by asking them yourself may answer questions they sis not ask.
I often teach concepts that are easy to get backwards. I try to get the student to realize they have the right idea and to think why they are incorrect. They almost always find thier way with just a few additional questions to guide them.
