Student Participation

I have found that my 8am class isn't as lively as my night class. To get more student participation, I have found calling on students to answer questions keeps them on their toes. Also, having them get into groups to discuss information and present to the class helps.

Maria, I agree that having students discuss the information in smaller groups before asking them to respond in a large group helps greatly. It increases the number and quality of responses because the students are able to bounce ideas off of others in their group and gain confidence to share their thoughts with the class.

Hi Maria- Thanks for your post to the forum. Just curious - what are the demographics of your 8 am class versus the night class? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
