Motivating students to participate through questions
I like to tell my students that questions are always encouraged so that I know they either understand the material or need further explanation. Its also a good way to build a more positive relationship for the next few weeks that we are together.
I really like this suggestion. I does not force students on the spot to tell me what they do not understand
Hi Robin - Thanks for your post to the forum. I think the idea of anonymous questions on index cards is great! Students will get their questions answered and probably find that their classmates had many of the same questions. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I use e-mail also but another technique I am considering is to have students prepare at least one question on an index card that pertains to the reading assignment that they do not understand and bring it to class with them with no name on it and go through these at the end of the class and allow for group participation along with my feedback.
Hi Adrian- Thanks for your post to the forum. I like to give students the option of sending me questions via email. This is especially useful for students who are shy. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
