Questioning
Are there any ideas that can be shared about how to really spark an interest in students asking questions of interest about the subject matter.
Hi Donna, Thanks for your post to the forum. You shared some excellent class management techniques that need to be in place in every classroom.
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Student participation is essential to learning. Offer credit for participation. Inform students on the first day of class that they are expected to read assignments at home and come to class prepared to discuss the material. NEVER berate a student if they ask a "silly" question or don't seem to grasp the concepts of the material. Use this as an opportunity. Have groundrules in place that forbid laughing at questions or "making fun" of one another. By providing a non-threatening environment students will begin to open up and share with the class.
I suggest inquiring with the students on the first day of class of his/her interest
Hi Michelle - Thanks for your post to the forum. I like to ask students to share persoanl experience with a topic as this does seem to get them participating. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
