Asking Questions

I often get the crickets when I ask if there are any questions, so instead of asking if there are any questions, I ask some questions related to the material - sort of fill in the blank type questions that tell me iff they have understood the material.

Hi Chastity, Thanks for your post to the forum. I always have a number of prepared questions ready to use in my classes - sometimes if the discussion is good, I don't even need to use them! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I also find that asking questions instead of waiting for questions to be asked works best. This seems to engage the classroom as a whole and motivates and encourages thinking.
