Questioning Session

Questioning session is very important. When a student ask you a question means that that student is paying attention in the class. An instuctor us always a learner. He or she learns from qustion and answer session.

Hi Debbie, Your love of teaching is obvious!! I describe my role in those great discussions as "Facilitator". I try to sit back and gently guide the discussion that is really run by my students - and YES when it goes well I am thrilled!! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I think this is why I enjoy the teaching profession.

In the classroom, I can become a facilitator of learning making it a joint participation with my students. The focus is less off me and more on the discussion of the subject or topic at hand. When questions are brought into the class through a student or myself, the challenge is to keep that energy going into getting more students involved in answering and bringing up more questions. I am able to create an environment of focusing on the answers that illustrate principles I want to teach. When discussions like this happen, and to be honest, it does not always happen, I have a joy when I leave the classroom.

I also think when you are working with "at risk" students, like I do, it encourages them to come back for more, and their attendance in coming to class is higher!

Hi Laxmi, Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree - as instructors we learn from our students through questioning. It is valuable feedback that helps us to improve our teaching. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

You are right, I do learn alot from questions asked. If a student poses a question or presents a topic that I don't know the answer to, I sometimes make it an assignment for the class so we all can learn.
