Anonymous "Drop in the Hat" Questioning Technique
I've found with some classes that giving the students time at the beginning of class to drop a question into a hat will get the more shy learners to participate.
I then read all relevant questions and ask the class to answer (I will clarify any points necessary).
This sounds like something I might try. Although I always say "No question is ever stupid", I know there are still some questions that go unanswered. This method might just provoke some of the shy ones.
Thanks for the tip.
Hi Kari, Thanks for your post to the forum. I think that is a great idea. Your students will probably be happy to see that there were a number of others that had the same questions. Best wishes as you start your teaching career!!

I am in training for my first class in February. When I was going over this material, I had thought about that as well. My thought was for shy students that if I encourage students to write any questions they may have on a notecard, if they get the answer during the class, cross it out. If by the end of the class session their question has not been answered, I will collect those cards and address the questions to the entire classs. Does this sound like it would work?
Hi Forrest, Thanks for your post to the forum. I find that students are usually surprised to see how many of them have the same questions! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.
