Large Classes
Can questioning always be effective for everyone in a larger class setting? Won't some students refrain from answering? Are there other strategies to use to engage these students?
Hi Judy, Thanks for sharing that good suggestion for facilitating questions/discussions with large groups. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Having large classes does make it hard to make sure that each student gets the chance to participate in the class discussions. Sometimes it is helpful to ask some questions in large group but then break the students up into smaller discussion groups and let them write their questions on chart paper and allow each group to come around and post their thoughts.
Hi Brian, Good question! Although I think most of us teach in smaller class settings, I recall my time at a University with hundreds of students in a class. I would suggest incorporating pre-written questions into a powerpoint. Present a question, giving a few moments for students to think, and then present the answer. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.
