I have had very good results when the student read the question back to me. Most of the time the light bulb in their head comes on and they realize they just misread the question. Usually we can have a laugh about it because we have all been in the same situation.

students when miss questions always assume the question is a trick one. students have a habit of not reading the question correctly. they usually willread more into it. when he does this,it changes the whole meaning. to correct this,tell the student to read the question as a statement,then answer it with what he has been taught, not what he thinks it shoud be. this will encourage him to pay more attention to you also.

Ask the student to come in, either after or before the class. Know, this time the student is one on one with the instructor and that the question can be explained to the furthest detail without other student interferance.This way we can see if the student realy wants the info or are they just looking for a point on the test.
