Compressed assessments!
Our curriculum is compressed to three weeks and therefore our formative assessments are almost daily. This does keep everyone moving forward with absolute knowledge of their standing in the course!
In my class, there is a test every day. The students are aware of this from the first day, so no surprises, and they never ask if there is a test. This FORCES the student to go home and study, not just glance over their notes on break and hope for the best on the test.
This is very true. Just about all of our assesments are of the formative type due to the fast paced style of our format.
