Ethical evaluations

The ethical/moral ideology can be one of the most difficult to instill into the students mindset, if they don’t come in with them. Many career school students lack not only ethics but the soft skills as well. I always ask my students to be ladies and gentlemen alike as well as tell them to treat each other with dignity and respect.
Having them so self evaluations has also helped as well as career paths and visualization exercises.

HI Rosalind, I teach Ethics and my students are often not aware of the implications of unethical behavior for their careers. Susan

Ethics overall is a subject that I stress often in my class. Being that I am a Massage Therapist your ethics will be called into question often. Making an unethical disicion can cause a therapist their career.

Steven, thanks I have never heard of "Ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen."

I like it and will share it with my students at FCI when I talk to them about their goals and the skills, attitude, and habits they need to acquire to accomplish those goals, family, school, and/or career.

Hi Steven - I never heard that before - terrific - Thanks for sharing! Best wishes - Susan

I always remind my students about the Ritz-Carlton service motto: Ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.

The first week of class I make it a point to discuss the guidelines of what I expect concerning the completion of their assignments. I make it very clear that each person is to do their own work and I can tell if all they did was change the name and print someone else project. I explain the person who does the work and lets another copy it -- is just as guilty as the person doing the copying. I explain plagiarism even though we do not do reports where they would using someone else’s work.

I make it a point to explain to them that the choices they make today will influence choices they make in the future. I also advise them of the consequences of cheating

Dear Michael: I concur with what you do and I would add discussions of the nature of plagirism and cheating on exams.
