Getting students active`
I engage my students from the first day and get them active in their learning, this keeps the learning fun and keeps the students engauged .
I try to limit my lectures to 20 minutes, and then go straight into demo where they can stand up around the demo table. If the lecture goes over 20 minutes, the students interest is lost.
I strongly agree. I try to be very positive with the way I answer their questions and also give them all the attention that they deserve. I usually get very good responses and I notice that students tend to ask a lot of questions because they feel like it's an inviting and safe environment.
I agree. I try to open up the door for them to put a little of their own thoughts and experiences into the class, rather than merely parroting back the stuff in the textbook. I find it lets them be more involved in the course on a personal level, and it makes it far more interesting for everyone.
I think that part of engaging students is to let them know that they are welcome at any time to ask questions or offer comments about the material or their personal experiences as they relate to the course material. This opens the learning process from the first day.
Hi Vincent - thanks for your postings and welcome to ED 103! I am always looking for new ways to get students engaged. What do you find works best for you?
