Review

I have been reviewing more in class lately and although it is a less active environment forme, my students seem to really beneifit from it.

My class reviews by playing a game as well and they love it. They try harder and the test scores have shown this works.

You can never have too much review. Even if you have covered a subject three times the students might not have picked it up.

I always give a lengthy review at the end of the class the night before the final written exam. I read the questions from the test but format them slightly differently. I then have the class answer the questions as a group and encourage note taking. I see that when I get the tests back, students that often have a hard time with written recall are more prepared and less likely to just "give up" once they have had this active conversation.

HI Jason - thanks for your post to the forum. That's what we do! That's why I insist on pre-tests on the first day of class and another at the end. "Wow - look how much you all have learned!!" It never gets old! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I get pleasure out of doing a review in the first week of class and seeing the students tring to think of the answer, then doing it at the end of class and seeing them answer the question before you even get asking the question.

When we review for a final exam I give the class a few choices on reviews. Usually the result is Jeporday. I write questions about things we coverd. The students seem to have fun and do better on the test with the result of higher grades.I have found the student asking to play more often as a result.

Class reviews can be active and exciting when games such as Jeopardy are incorporated into it.

Hi Dorothy- I think that a good idea is to give students a study guide based on those chapters and ask each student to come up with a different question as part of the review. Susan

When is reviewing chapters for exam prep too much?

Hi Judith - Thanks for your post to the forum. I find that putting the important concepts/keywords on the board, as I lecture, is a good practice.

I feel students should review what the instructor puts on the board and also what the instructor talks about.

I would love to figure out how I could spend more time reviewing when there is so much material to cover. As I teach a class several times, I see what can be assigned as homework which will free up time to review.

I try to work in a concept several times in a discussion and build on it time around. It gets repetition and review without being repetitive.

HI Juanita- Thanks for your post to the forum. Checking for undertanding through a review is essential before proceeding on to new material. Great work! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Reviewing is always a plus. Whatever the students find that is a problem or confusing it can be worked out. I give a review once a week which the students have come to rely on.
