Wunderlic Assessment
Any feedback, positive or negative, on this type of assessment?
Having proctored the Wonderlic and the Accuplacer assessments, I have found them to be fairly indicative of how the student will fare in their courses. They are great tools to help verify that prospective students will have the ability to handle the course materials. Interestingly, the NFL administers the Wonderlic to all college football players who may be potential NFL players.
I find it unbelievable (this reveals my age and type of education like nothing else) that this is necessary. I think a basic question to ask is, how can someone be admitted to college based strictly on a diploma - we all know full well the weakness in that. Perhaps something similar (but not quite as comprehensive or detailed) to the test that nurses must take to be accepted. It is an assessment, and it is based on how most of their summative assessments will be conducted while in college. It doesn't have to be difficult to determine where the weak areas are, and remediation can be assigned accordingly.
Hi Ron - Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, it really is an advantage as instructors to know where there are general ed deficiencies. We cannot make up for all the skills they do not have, but of course, we try! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
At my institution they use the Wunderlic Assessment. Many of the high school graduates are lacking in some of the base skills to effectivly complete the courses offered. This assesment allows us to identify the students and offer remedial classes to help them achieve the level of compedency needed.
The Wonderlic is an type of test assessment to show students based on results, what classes they will be placed in such as math foundations, english foundations or advance to possibly college algebra, etc.
I personally think the wonderlic is appropiate in determining student academic needs.
I to would like to know about the value of the Wunderlic assessment and also followed by the Accuplacer. Does the accuplacer clearly define the level of education for entrance?
Sarah
Wunderlic Assessment should be give to every student that enter college, this lets us as instructors know if the student is college material.
