alternative assesments

to deliver to specific learning styles

Hi Elizabeth- Thanks for your post to the forum. Your "Practice Exam" is excellent! your students will be much more relaxed and confident when they take the actual state exam. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

For my students, I try to give them a "practice" exam that is going to be similar to the state practical exam they'll have to take for their licensing. I give my students very clear guidelines that they will have to meet in order to pass, then assign them the two skills I would like them to perform. They must do it exactly the same as they would for their state exam, using the same time frame, materials, rules, etc. It is a great practice for them as well as a slightly different way to check on their progress in our lab component of class.

There are many alternative assessments in which I include in my Information Technology current classes. One, I use lab exam to test their ability to setup servers, etc. This way, what they learned, they have to show me how it is done. This method is being incorporated to many vendor certification program where, they take the written exam and when they pass that portion, they are invited to take the practical exam. One example would be Cisco, CCIE exam series as well as new Microsoft MCM program, they are being implemented as I write this.
