Students have a tendacy of requesting what they want on a Test. I find that some student do not like a challenge.
Thanks for your comment! As a new instructor I struggle with which is the best way to review for a test and how to answer the question "will this be on the test?" I sometimes find myself "narrowing down" the information for the students. I am going to start using your approach that within my lecture the test answers will appear.
There are alot of students that ask "Is this going to be on the test" in wich I always reply "Yes" but then I ask them.....when is the test? They usually respond with the date the test is set for and I respond ....wrong. I then explain that I am not going to just mearly teach them the test but I will teach them the whole subject instead. Then I assure them that within my lecture the test answers will always appear. I explain that I will not highlight the test questions because I dont want to short change anyone for the education that they deserve.
I also have experienced this. I refuse to give them an exam in which there is no challenge. I do not create study guide or cheat sheet. When I lecture I go over the main points of the topic and from there I allow the students to pick up on what they believe will be on the exam. By doing this I have noticed that my students stay more engaged during lectures. They ask a lot more questions and I beleive they gain a better understanding of the topic.
How true, my students want to know exactly what's going to be on the test. They don't want to do poorly.
