Using alternative assesments

using hands on techniques help me to give my students an clear understanding of how to to certain procedures.

Hi Holly, Thanks for your post to the forum. Having students "teach-back" is an excellent technique! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I have done role reversal with my students by making them get up and do a 5-10 minute "teach" on a selected topic. I am really able to see what they have commited to knowledge not memorization.

I have always said hands on is one of the best methods for certain subjects. I originally went to college for computers, the book stuff I would sometimes have a hard time with. But the hands on stuff would solidify it and make it stick with some kinda sense. Thats why I try to put as much hands on as possible in my classes.

Using hands on assessments are a very useful technique in evaluating how much the students have learned, but also helps me to assess whether or not I delivered the material appropriately and whether or not I gave my students enough lab exercises to practice and learn the techniques.
