This very important for us as instructor to asses your students all the time as sometimes you could think that the information was well received and processed by your students but you discover the opposite when you start asking questions related to what you just covered, so this is as important as teaching because it will reflect the amout of knowlege really recievedby your students.
Thanks
Hi Nathalie, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, by checking for undestanding before class ends we can be certain that our students leave with what they need to complete homework and be prepared to learn new material in the next class. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Definitely. Assesing at the end of the class day can help in clarifying for the next day. Or catch students that might not have understood a certain assignment.
Evaluating your students is important because it will make you aware of their progress, as well as let the instructor know how the students are retaining information. I also feel that student evaluation is a way for the instructor to evaluate themselves, example: if a large number of students fail an exam, maybe the instructor should try other delivery methods, maybe the material wasn't broken down enough for the students to understand, etc. So, student evaluation is a way for both the instructor and student to make improvements in the classroom.
I like to constantly assess along the way and build stop and discuss points into the hands on labs. I can custom tune my instruction on the fly.
