I have adopted a method of keeping a course outline posted on the board and updating it as the class progresses. As the class gets to a major topic, I fill in the supporting topics, and as we move through those supporting topics, I add in the main points. It serves as a list of educational goals, a progress status, and an outline the students can use for their own notes.
