Formative & Summative Evaluations

I beleive that students should know where they stand in their learning comprehensive, because when they know where they stand in there assignments shows them not only what they are learning but also it improves there selfestem.

Formative assessment is important especially when students are attending classes once a week for 11 weeks as mine are. They need to have continual progress reports an I designed my own that included all of the objectives and expectations such as homework, professionalism, test grades, and what is missing and left to complete. The students know weekly where they stand rather than midterm finding out they are behind or even failing. They appreciate this as they go right to their notebooks to see what is on their list, what grade they have thus far, and what is left to finish for the week. It is clear cut, to the point, and no surprises. We both like it; I know how and when to approach the student who may need tutoring now rather than later as well.

Hi Verna, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, students need to know how they are doing in a timely manner. Waiting till mid-term is not acceptable!
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.
