Formative Assessment
Formative Assessment is more important as it helps both teacher and student: it helps the teacher about student's understanding of the content and helps to evaluate conituously.For the student: it helps for identifying in which area ,the student is getting low score and how to improve the soore.

CAT's of different types help also. They can reach different type learners. It can be challenging to create different CAT's. You have to be really creative.

I agree, but you need many kinds of assessments, like CAT's in the course to have a better idea of where the students are and what you may have to do as an instructor to better serve the students needs.
