CAT

I don't always feel that a test does any good. Some folks like myself hear the word test or final or quiz and I go into a panic. I don't want a student that is in class for 10 days going through pure panic for 9 days just thinking about the last 10. You will loose them right up front. Other ways to test are oral or put the questions on the board and pick and choose students to answer them. After all, we are not here to fail students, we are here to educate them.

Hi Claudia, Thanks for your post to the forum. Quizzes are certainly effective but the open ended responses CATs can elicit are often very informative. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I always thought quizzes were the best way to evaluate how was the delivery of my class. It didn't matter how easy of difficult it was I want to make sure it was delivered properly

Games are realy good for students to retain information

When teaching software skill like I do, in a very specific industry, like Games, the entire course is essentially a quiz. Learning and producing assets in one package is difficult, but makes assessment easy as it is continuous.

some of my students will do well in class participation, presentations...then freeze up on an exam and not score as high as they should. I try to give them more "class participation" scores to help out with this since they ARE learning the material, but test anxiety sets in.
