CATs

I have seen this in past classes that I have taken; however, the instructor never collected them to evaluate. I can see this being an effective tool if utilized correctly.

I like the use of CATs as a form of grading and of not grading - I see a dual purpose. It's nice to be able to get a quick snapshot of what the students have learned without being threatening.

I also find this will be a powerful tool in my classroom. I do use reviews before quizzes/tests, but I'd like to get a feeling for what they retained from that day rather than overnight study. Just as much, I will use your idea for when class time might be running short, as you say.

Hi Brian - Thanks for your post to the forum. I am glad that you have found this short course useful. I know that you will find using CATs worthwhile! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

The minute paper is something I'm sure to use to make sure my students are grasping the content as well as it being a good tool for when lectures fall short of the time frame. Really excited and can't wait to use it.

I agree with assessments being an effective tool when used correctly.

Hi Deanna, Absolutely! CATs are only useful if they are evaluated and feedback taken from them. Students also need to know that we are doing this.
