tests

What is the real value of matching tests and how many instructiors actually use that type of testing?

I agree Fred. Overly using the ability to test students could end up being a bad idea.

Testing should be done on a weekly basis, assessing base knowledge.

Hi Tony, I agree. I use some matching as well as mixing it up with several types of questions. Matching works well with recognition of classifications or market forms of different products for example.

Hi Ron,
Matching test work for us in culinary school for the temperatures, numbers and definitions that are so much a part of what we do. For us, they need to be used along with criticl thinking assessments re the science of what we teach.

Thanks.

Hi Ron - Matching tets can test students' recognition of the relationships between events and dates, words and definitions, categories and examples, etc.

None of my faculty use tests that are totally matching, but most do include this assessment type as part of their tests.

Best wishes - Susan
