Learning styles
Many students learn in ways that are different from how other people of the same group learn. It takes an experienced instructor to figure out these differences.

Honestly ask more questions and have conversation face-to-face.
Learning to adapted to the different types of learning styles can be difficult. Although I find it interesting, because you honestly have to be a people person and have lots of patience with your students.

These styles can be hard to interpret in the online environment. There are also some good online assessments that will help prioritize your learning styles. I will get back to you with their links.
An easy way to isdentify a student's learning style is to observe the manner in which they mis-behave or are distracted. A visual learner doodles. An intrapersonal learner talks out of turn. Etc.
