True/False test

Is the better test you can produce, because student can focus on a real respond based in the selection of the true (right) or False (Negative) make more interesting the way the student learn the objectives

I do not use T/F tests. I feel like they are not a true representation of the skill sets of the students. Sometimes in a T/F test, the answer is dependent on the wording of the question as opposed to the content.

I agree. I never use T & F because if you know nothing, you could get 50% right. If you were lucky, you could get 75% right with no effort to learn. Too easy, does not promote the right assessment of learning.

Hi Margaret - Thanks for your post to the forum and an excellent suggestion on how to take T/F assessments to a new level! Best wishes- Susan

I really like true false questions on assessments. The way that I improve the effectiveness of the true/false question is to require the students to correct the answer if it is false, therefore, allowing them to think critically about the answer and show that they know the content.

I too find that true/false tests can be extremely stressful for some students and a joke for others. I would rather use multiple choice, short answer, and essay to ensure that my students have a clear understanding.

HI Roger - Thanks for your post to the forum. What a great analogy! Clearly- NO! Best wishes - Susan

I tend to agree with that statement.

Would you want a medical student to become a doctor based on true/false tests? And more closer to home, would you want that individual to operate on you?

I'm not a believer in True/False test, however, if you use it as part of priliminary test assesment. You'll find out who is academicly challenged. I would follow up with a test that is multiple choice and then finish with a essay exam.

Yes, I agree but the flip side is you can cover way more class content, and 50% is not a passing grade.

Hello,

I think that true or false tests are good for students because they can select facts versus fake. Now if they have really studied the book, they will know what is true and sometimes a lot of students do not read, so I think that this is a good test to see how many students are actually reviewing the class contents.

I agree that a true of false test is way too easy. This type of test does not challenge the student and I feel they would not study as hard for this type of test. Using this method during pre-testing would be helpful.

it will actually make them understand the correct answer better

True/false test have no real merit when it comes to testing what a student really knows. This quiz make it easy for students who don't study to get a good score based on guessing for the most part. Sure it is easy to grade & to kinda write but even by making some a "trick question" by simply changing a word or two can even stump the good student who does study. Don't like to give true/false test since it is also makes it fairly easy for students to cheat off one another.

A true/false test may be better used as a class prep test for their actual test. This may be a good prep for the students to reclaim the knowledge in their course.

true or false tests are too easy for the slacker student to just guess with a 50-50% chance of getting question correct, i personally do not use them as they dont work well with me
